The legendary gossip columnist Dorothy Kilgallen notoriously panned ''Skyscraper'' in previews, calling it ''a turkey.'' It opened to mixed reviews and ran for only 6 months. It's possible that the Tony committee gave more weight to nominating Julie Harris, a then-2-time Tony winner.
But based on the cast recordings, Diener sounds like she had a tougher vocal challenge and was far more deserving. |
