I think I was most disappointed with the show selections. It's all about his big hits and/or the legendary Sondheim shows, which I suppose makes sense in a very commercial way.
But when the gorgeous melody of 'A Quiet Thing' from 'FLORA, THE RED MENACE' is so prominently featured in the terrific overture, and then never performed in this revue, I come away disappointed. Couldn't they have tossed in a couple of little known gems like that, along the way, that the audience isn't quite so familiar with?
Anyway, I did enjoy myself. Wonderful cast!! Some nice Stroman touches, as well. ("Tonight at Eight' from 'SHE LOVES ME,' for example.) |
