| She was a delight to watch though it was kind of clear why she wouldn't want to commit to a long run at this point. She showed her age in a way she hadn't in her last couple of stage performances. It's a very delicate play and I'm not sure how it would hold up in front of a contemporary audience buying Broadway priced tickets. If the tone isn't just right it could go horribly wrong. It's not exactly a hard core drama and is often light and funny but could very easily slip into camp...a melodrama perhaps? She was supported by a competent but mediocre cast. It was kind of surprising she wasn't paired with some brighter star wattage or at least stellar actors. All in all an enjoyable evening. |
