| I've been posting youtube clips on my FB page all day. There are just too many brilliant performances to pick one, but this is a standout. At one of 3 times I saw her at the Carlyle, there were two couples sitting front and center. The husbands were on the drunk side and clearly not interested or aware of who they were seeing. About three songs in, Ms. Cook stopped mid-song and said something to the effect of "Listen, I'm singing up here. I need you to settle down. Now." The men, with a bit of grumbling first, did quiet down. A few songs later, Ms. Cook sang "Errol Flynn" and by the end of it, both men were sobbing out loud. As for me, I'm tearing up now just at the memory of that incredibly special moment. Such artistry I'm afraid we'll never see again. | |
