Which is the perfect segue to remind everyone that the Tony Awards are absolutely meaningless as a yardstick for quality, or lasting impact, or overall merit. They're how the votes fell on a certain day in a certain year by certain people. If those people voted again a year later, perhaps they'd vote differently. Who knows. But let's remember this the next time we're having a debate about a show's quality and you want to reply with "well, it won x number of Tony awards so it must be good." Sometimes good things don't win. Sometimes less than good things win. We can only know what will truly stand the test of time when it has actually done so.
