I just want to say... it reads like your saying that this is the kind of show one remembers little about besides a cool experience being immersed in a show, and so therefor it needs a star to survive. That was your experience, and I'm sure others too, but it was very very much not mine or many people I know (and many critics). I took plenty away, including the rare (in the last 20 years) need to hear the score again ASAP, which led to buying the CD online and listening to the samples iTunes allows of my favorite songs from my memory (there were at least 4-5) until the CD arrived in the mail.
Yes, the show needed a star to survive Broadway... that's true of many good shows (and bad ones), but that is true for many reasons largely because the show isn't going to be for everyone or fit everyone's tastes and many people won't take from it what many others did. That's okay, it just means it won't be a commercial success. I think it is an artistic one.
So I know you likely didn't mean that your experience with the "experience" was what the show is period, but I just wanted to say that while I see that your experience was one many had and is very valid, it is definitely not the experience many others had... I've already seen it twice, not because there's a star in it but because I took away a lot and think about it and re-listen to it, and wanted to see it and experience it all again. I'm very glad I did. |
