I can easily understand that the show might not be for someone, the presentation of it, etc... it almost wasn't for me but it managed to live in this space where it does many things i often hate but loved anyway.

But to me the score is pretty undeniably magnificent and unique and exciting... i know it's deniable since not everyone hears what I hear, but it nonetheless surprises me. I was still almost sure it might at least win the Best Score Tony even if losing Musical.

But I'll always say, with shows like this, that Caroline or Change, which I consider the musical masterpiece of the last quarter-century, had a short run (less than Great Comet), and closes without winning a Tony for any of the groundbreaking and sensational writing (book or score), or for it's once in a lifetime powerhouse performance of Tonya Pinkins playing one of the biggest and most challenging leads in a musical period... and it wasn't even on the "nomination" list for the Pulitzer that year, despite that I can't think of a single musical more perfectly designed to win or be nominated for a Pulitzer (intellectual, daring, unique, non-commercial, deeply about and exploring American themes, written and conceived by one of the biggest/most important Pulitzer winning playwrights alive). That doesn't change that it was a masterpiece. (I'm not saying Great Comet is a masterpiece or on the same level as Caroline or Change, but i certainly think it's closer to that level than Dear Evan Hansen)
