Agree that there's a great book here--especially since it involves so many different kinds of productions at all levels. Why don't you write it, Wayman?
My suspicion is that they spent the better part of a year looking for a "name" to replace Groban and came up with nothing. It's not Oak's fault---it's poor producing, planning and a show that didn't have enough positive word of mouth vs. two other musicals that opened this season and several holdovers which continue to perform well. Patinkin is a Broadway fixture who went into the show as a favor to Rachel Chavkin. I don't think his entrance into the show signaled to a big name that they should consider doing the same. |
