Special Tony Awards have been awarded to big names for playing on Broadway: Diana Ross, Barry Manilow, Bette Midler ...

And Bruce first appeared on Broadway in ''High Fidelity'' (2006), a terrific musical by Tom Kitt, Amanda Green & David Lindsay-Abaire.

Rob (Will Chase), the owner of a struggling record store, wonders aloud: ''Why can't I be like the Boss?''

Then Bruce, in a white T-shirt and blue jeans, brandishing a guitar, shows up in a fantasy musical number.

''Call me, Mr. Springsteen,'' he says. (OK, Bruce was played by Jon Patrick Walker.)

Rob and Bruce then launched into one of the show's best numbers, ''Goodbye and Good Luck,'' a brilliant Springsteen parody.
