This INFURIATED me. Not only did Soloski not get it as you said, she literally had factual errors in the review. You can't take her seriously. And how insulting that the Times could not deign to send one of their 1st string critics to an original Broadway show. Makes me want to give up my subscription (if it weren't for the political reporting, I might in protest).
Like someone else pointed out - Jesse Green liked the show quite a bit. And of course, Charles Isherwood gave it a rave on Broadway News. It was just bad, bad luck.
