Glad to hear that the Metropolitan Room is finding new digs. As for its 22nd St. location, I caught many amazing performers there over the years: Karen Mason, Jeff Harnar, KT Sullivan, Stacy Sullivan, Marcus Simeone, Jack Donahue, Baby Jane Dexter, etc. Plus, wonderful revues, like ''Southern Comfort,'' starring Tom Andersen, Scott Coulter and Tim DiPasqua. And there were the special events, like the benefit concerts for David Kenney's ''Everything Old Is New Again'' show on WBAI-FM, and ''This Is Your Night!,'' which once saluted ''the cabaret nurse'' Maryann Lopinto (Mlop).
Among the Broadway stars who played there: Faith Prince, Christine Ebersole, Nancy Dussault, Anita Gillette, Vivian Reed and many more.
If there's a blemish on the room's reputation, it's that they're known in the cabaret community for being notoriously slow in paying their performers. I know of singers who have waited for months and months. One cabaret legend waited for a year. Hope their track record is better in their new home. |
