| But, I would say, in this show the song is over staged and not sincere enough. Obviously it is directed that way because Mr. Uranowitz could have done a fantastic job and brought much heart to it. I don't recall Brent Carver jumping on the furniture and posing and posturing so much as just expounding his skills while his roommate tried to sleep. One of two moments that were played incorrectly, from my point of view. The other was If I Were A Rich Man. Played for laughs instead of heart, it had neither. Chuck Cooper could do a very fine job with that song but when he did his little steppy step dance move in the middle of it, well that said everything to me. It would have been nicer for them to have done Do You Love Me? for that moment. At least then we would have a couple of people singing at the same time. With all of the numbers being these powerhouse songs, it would have been nice to have a moment to just revel in some honesty. |
