Actually, Harvey Fierstein's new book does. Jack and Crutchie tease us by opening with a short version of it, as their ''I want'' song. But Jack closes Act I with it as his big solo, when his situation has become even more dramatic and dire (and Jeremy Jordan was amazing as he belted his face off).

Spoiler ahead: To close the show, Jack reprises a snippet of ''Santa Fe''; only now, he's rejected New Mexico & decides to stay in N.Y. Well-done!

(I'm thrilled that its score and choreography won Tonys, but the book is the unsung hero of the show. The idea to turn Denton, the male reporter in the movie, into Katherine, a female reporter in the stage show ... and Jack's love interest, is brilliant. It makes the story much more satisfying.)
