| Here's another piece on why Cook sent chills with her truthful singing. It also includes her remark about Catherine Zeta-Jones' Tony win. | |

| So who did deserve it over Zeta-Jones? The nominees: Kate Baldwin, Finian's Rainbow Montego Glover, Memphis Christiane Noll, Ragtime Sherie Rene Scott, Everyday Rapture Catherine Zeta-Jones, A Little Night Music |

| One, Barbara Cook was billed above the title of ''Sondheim on Sondheim.'' She should've competed for Leading; the Tonys bumped her to Featured. Two, Montego Glover should've won Best Actress in a Musical for ''Memphis,'' hands-down. She had a number of killer solos, including ''Colored Woman.'' Whereas, Catherine Zeta-Jones had but one solo, ''Send in the Clowns,'' which she performed poorly on the Tony telecast. Interestingly, Glover and Zeta-Jones tied for Best Actress at the Outer Critics Circle. And then tied again at the Drama Desks. (I don't believe that's ever happened before.) Since ''Memphis,'' I don't think Glover's gotten the kind of roles she deserves. But I'm happy she'll join ''Hamilton'' as Angelica in September. (Meantime, her ''Memphis'' co-star, Chad Kimball, who was equally Tony-worthy, has found a home in the Tony-winning ''Come From Away.'') |
