I believe you're thinking of Andy Kaufman, who played Carnegie Hall & then had buses outside to bring the entire audience to a school cafeteria (I think) for milk and cookies.

Thanks ileen - yes , it was Kaufman sorry I missed him in "TEANECK TANZI:The Venus Flytrap" in 1983 at the Nederlander was covering Pro-Wrestling at the time but did not get there in time - it opened in the afternoon and closed that evening anyone see it - how bad was it ?
