Highlights from Bill Murray's interview on WNYC, where he also raved about Tim Minchin, Andy Karl and the rest of the cast ...

''We were knocked out by [the musical]. I'm very fond of the movie. I think it's one of the best things I've ever done. It's a great American movie. People love it. So I kinda expected to be disappointed [by the musical]. That it would be okay. But it was far better than anything we expected. It really [captured] the point of the movie. And, yes, I cried. It's about what we should be trying to do: live our lives as well as we can. [I was moved] by seeing that, and the beauty of it, and the execution. It's a really well-made show. The staging [by Matthew Warchus] is great. The actors are really great. I'm really sensitive about actors who are hammy; they make me wanna throw things. But these actors are so disciplined and professional. They became this incredible ensemble. ... No one was out for themselves. They played together as a group. ... I was touched from head to toe.''

''[Andy Karl] absolutely did Phil Connors justice. And more. He brought something different. And he has to sing. ... I'm told he tore his ACL three days before the opening. ... You've got to start strong when you wake up each day. I could see how you could get exhausted doing this show. When I did the film, it was tiring. And Andy has all kinds of physical things and shtick he's gotta do ... [with] perfect timing and sing ... and touch [everyone] with the powerful music. And the music [by Tim Minchin] is really good. And it keeps coming at you, like Ravel. It really hums. It's really beautiful.''

''I almost didn't go [back the second night]. But I really wanted to see it again. And I wanted to see if it was any different [than the night before, when there was so much adrenaline]. ... And I cried again. I guess I'm just a slobberhound. But if [a show] is done correctly, it's art. And some things were different. I enjoyed Barrett Doss [even] more the second time. And Andy Karl. And John Sanders [who played Ned Ryerson]. On Wednesday night, his solo ["Night Will Come"] just stunned the audience. It really got 'em. People do Ned to me hundreds of times a year, so I live with him, and John really sang the heck out of it. And there is a really beautiful song that Tim Minchin should get some credit for: ["Playing] Nancy." Rebecca Faulkenberry [plays] the hot [sex] object of Punxatawney. And I did not see this song coming, and neither did the audience. It really got to them. I've gone to musicals where someone does a "woe-is-me" number, but this one was better than any one I've ever seen."
