Les Miz logo in the street in front of the Imperial

How did that get there? It always strikes me as odd because it has the opening date of the show BUT the show opened at the Broadway. (BTW why did it move?)

Broadway 10th Anniversary

It was placed in front of the Imperial to coincide with the 10th Anniversary of the show on Broadway back in March 1997. I'd have to find my old photos and scan them but I have some from that performance somewhere.

Because despite where it opened it was playing the Imperial when it became the longest running show in Broadway history, which was the occasion for the plaque. I presume they wanted the plaque to live where the show was currently, where people seeing the show each night could see and enjoy the plaque.

I have no idea other than the obvious as to the first question. As to the 2nd, CMack wanted the Broadway for Saigon so he moved Les Miz
