Broadway Grosses 8/13: ‘Groundhog’ up by nearly $100K; ‘Kinky' down by nearly $900K

  • Last week, ended August 13, Broadway grosses totaled $30,312,338 for 30 shows.

    In the prior week, ended August 6, Broadway grosses totaled $31,424,603 for 31 shows.

    In the comparable week last year, Broadway grosses totaled $24,414,936 for 26 shows.




  • With one less show on the boards, Broadway grosses were down slightly from the prior week, but a marked improvement over the comparable week last summer.

    Highlights:

    — Kinky Boots’ first week after star Brendon Urie departed saw the box office tumble by $-878,366.

    — Did the publicity about Bill Murray’s two successive visits to Groundhog Day help? Perhaps. The gross went up by $96,551 last week.

    — On Your Feet! closes next Sunday. In its second to last week, the musical’s box office increased by $161,666 which brought the gross back to over a million dollars ($1,054,473).

    — It was box-office-draw Ingrid Michaelson’s last week at The Great Comet and it was also Okieriete "Oak" Onaodowan’s last week in the musical. The show improved by $106,050 over the prior week for a weekly gross of $981,664
