| Will this be a case (for the show, not for Ben Platt) of being a victim of your own success? I've seen it three times and was floored by Ben's performance each time, but I also think the whole cast and the material is more than strong enough to be just as rewarding emotionally and artistically with a different Evan, and, if chosen with equal care, replacements for the rest of the cast as well. While the buzz had been building for Ben in the role since Washington DC, and certainly there are those who knew him from Pitch Perfect and Book of Mormon, it is DEH that made him a star, and - taking nothing away from him - not the other way around. So it's almost ironic if the exigencies of Broadway lead the producers to seek out a "name" even though Ben wasn't really a "name" before this show. Also, every post I've read discussing Michael Lee Brown's performance leads me to believe he's more than worthy successor; while I can't judge that for myself yet - I hope to be able to soon. | |

| Bet the producers are livid he's not performing thru the lucrative "Thanksgiving thru New Years" season. I bet this is the actor's way of asking for more money to extend thru this lucrative season. Smart move on his part. | |

| "Bet the producers are livid he's not performing thru the lucrative "Thanksgiving thru New Years" season." I should think that's exactly when they DON'T need him. They'll sell tickets to the hit Tony Award-winning musical at that time, no matter WHO'S starring in it at that time. But come January and February, when the snow (and the box office grosses) falls, THAT'S when they might need him. I should think. |

| Given that the show is completely sold out through the end of the year, I don't understand your point st all. | |

| When "The Show Business" news hits and goes 'round on fan forums, speculations always arise. Then I'm reminded of a recent piece going 'round too … to the reasoning that there a disturbing pattern among fans on forums and clearly educated and otherwise honorable and incisive critics, bloggers, hosts and journalists: a persistent misunderstanding of what the business is actually about, that ranges from inadvertent stereotyping to unwitting perpetuation of outdated terms to misapplied critique all the way to aggressively unapologetic ignorance. | |
