"One of the worst decisions was selling it almost exclusively as a star vehicle rather than an interesting, boundary-pushing ensemble piece."
Many would say that, in some important ways, the producers did NOT sell the show as a star vehicle for Groban. As has been discussed, neither his name, his image, nor his voice were featured in the TV commercials, And, incredibly, neither his name or image are featured in the cover art for the cast recording.
You could argue that the show was positioned as a star vehicle to a certain extent through Groban's performance on the Tonys and perhaps other TV appearances, but overall I would say: Not so much. |
