This was my favorite show from last season. I enjoyed it way more than Dear Evan Hansen.

It's a shame it never found its audience. Some of my friends saw it & were underwhelmed, citing the tired "the score wasn't memorable" line. Other friends I know "got it" & loved it, appreciating the rich nuances to this show.

I saw it twice & loved it both times, but I actually enjoyed it more the second time around. And I've seen the movie a hundred times. I actually thought that would hurt my enjoyment of the musical but the stage show does its own thing & makes you forget the movie exists, if you can believe it. (Hell, even Bill Murray admitted to that this past week.) It works really well.

I brought up Dear Evan Hansen earlier b/c I think both shows are about assholes who ultimately see the error of their ways, but Phil Connors in Groundhog Day has the more authentic & fulfilling transformation by the end of the show. (I still don't feel that Evan Hansen learned from his misdeeds. He got away with A LOT of shit.) Groundhog Day has way more heart, if you ask me.

Go see this wonderful show if you have the chance. And be sure to purchase/download/stream the cast album too-- It will definitely grow on you.
