| Yeah, I know she went off and made a few movies, mostly minor, and/or mostly in minor roles. Just seems like she's disappeared lately. I'm a big fan, by the way. |

| She's one of the principals in Goliath, an Amazon TV series that stars Billy Bob Thornton. It's having a second season, and presumably she's still with it. | |

| I recall a lot of hoopla during the "Venus in Fur" days she was going to star in this huge biopic of Janis Joplin and it was going to be *the thing* for her. So hopefully she didn't pass up on a number of other projects waiting for this thing to come around. |

| She was just on Broadway two years ago in Fool For Love, and is a series regular on the Amazon TV show Goliath, which was recently renewed. She's certainly not disappeared, and the title of this thread seems a little dramatic. | |

| She also had a nice role in Florence Foster Jenkins with Meryl Streep. She's working, just hasn't had a huge breakout role. Seems to me she's doing okay. She always seemed to me more of a character actress than a star. | |

| not Idina Menzel. Not every super talented person is camera friendly. And some folks who register big in the theatre don't register the same on film. She'll always work, but probably not as a star. | |

| Nina got star making reviews and gave star make performances in Venus... and Born Yesterday. She was due to become a star. That hasn't happened. She's not getting starring roles and her last Bway show was, as you said, 2 years ago. It's hard to have a steady career on Bway yes but where are the big film and TV roles? I'd consider her career a disappointment at this time. | |

| I'm sure she appreciates people judging her career as a disappointment. She has two movies in post-production. One is an animated feature (The Adventures of Drunky, starring Sam Rockwell) in which she is voicing a character. The other is Stan and Ollie, about Laurel and Hardy, starring John C. Reilly and Steve Coogan. She plays Ida Kitaeva Laurel, Stan Laurel's wife. |

| How often does that really happen? An actor becomes a big star after one or two splashy theater appearances? Unless we count Lin-Manuel Miranda, who's a special case as writer-performer, the last one I can remember is Mark Ruffalo from This Is Our Youth 20 years ago. Her next film project looks...indie, I guess, but it looks like it might be a good role, and I for one can't wait to see more of John C. Reilly in this get-up! |

| She was due to become a star. Arianda was superb in Venus in Fur and very deservedly won a Tony award. However, the commercial transfer of Venus in Fur did not recoup and neither did the revival of Born Yesterday. Unfortunately in the world of commercial Broadway, it is unreasonable to expect that playing the lead in 2 plays that lost money will lead to stardom despite a Tony award and great reviews. I'm sure that Arianda will continue to get work in film, TV, and theatre, because she is a fine actress. |

| No. Although I believe some that are well received and get staged a lot in regional theatre, most likely at some point are considered profitable. | |

| I agree that none of her television nor film appearances have been very high profile in either popularity nor artistic success. She is still very young though and very talented and I think we shall be hearing much more from her in the future. She just needs one high profile success in movies or television. | |

| I think we're partly seeing the effects of how our media landscape has splintered into autonomous fiefdoms that require a higher level of user-driven awareness. I hadn't heard of "Goliath" until I was given Amazon Prime by a family member, so it was also a delightful surprise to me to discover that she's on the show - and is Brilliant on it. At the same time, it's odd that I was surprised, considering how popular the show has been on their platform. While the show was one of the most-watched when it came out, it wasn't the most buzzwed-about, and Amazon hasn't promoted it at the same level as "Transparent" or "Man in the High Castle". That's odd, considering the pedigree of the show: it's created by David E. Kelly and stars Billy Bob Thornton and William Hurt, with Arianda a very prominent second lead. When we look at how Arianda made her name, we see that her skills are a bit old fashioned. She's very good at being in screwball comedy, which are rare these days, and she does best when she has an equally strong partner, who are hard to find. So she hasn't reached the heights of stardom that some might have expected, but then, so few people ever do. If her career is to be considered disappointing, that's only in simplistic, egocentric, unrealistic expectations of how stardom, media, and Hollywood works, rather than real-world achievements. |

| I don't understand your snark, or the need for it. I think it's a reasonable thread. In fact, it made me realize that I hadn't heard anything about the actress in a long time, either. Yes, my "purview" is NY theater, and I don't read Variety or keep up with TMZ, so I appreciate hearing that Nina is working profitably in film and tv, and not unemployed. | |

| A quick IMDb search can bring up a list of Arianda's film and television credits. She's been pretty active in both mediums over the last few years, while still doing a fair amount of theater. Very few performers today are able to sustain their career exclusively through theater, as I imagine most people who read this board know. Even so, Arianda has returned time and again to the stage over the course of her relatively short professional career. When I think of a "Whatever Happened To..." thread, I expect to see a name I haven't heard in twenty years, not someone who was just on Broadway two years ago and has done a half-dozen movies and TV shows in the last year alone. | |

| Now how exactly would I be IMDB'ing someone who was out of my consciousness? While I appreciate that your expectations for the thread were not met, I'm baffled by your willful refusal to accept that someone else thought it was a good question. Feel free to fire back at me, but I'm done. | |
