I remember going to see the Pam Gems play from London, 'PIAF,' starring Jane Lapotiare in her Tony Award winning performance. But we found out when we got to the theatre that she didn't do Wednesday matinees. Her standby, a tall young girl from Texas, did the Wednesday matinees. Somebody by the name of Judith Ivey, who turned out to be quite wonderful in the part! We were so glad we stayed.
Also, Kathi Lee Gifford did the matinees for Carol Burnett, I believe, when 'PUTTING IT TOGETHER' came to Broadway. (Not sure if that was mentioned elsewhere here.) |
