Meantime, Pence goes to see 'The King and I' at the Kennedy Center ... and not everyone likes Mike

Last night, Vice President Mike Pence went to see ''The King and I'' at the Kennedy Center, but that wound up inconveniencing lots of theatergoers.

On the BroadwayWorld message board, OrangeSkittles posts:

''There was no notification about extra security, but they made everyone in the 2000-person audience go through 4 metal detectors and have all their bags and pockets all checked. ... I would have been only mildly inconvenienced and annoyed had it not been for the fact that they DIDN'T HOLD THE SHOW. I arrived at 7:10 for a 7:30 show and didn't get to my seat until 'Hello, Young Lovers.' There were hundreds of people in line behind me. They were still seating dozens of people in the first tier at 'A Puzzlement,' which is 45 minutes into the show! I spoke to a woman at intermission who was on time and she said at 7:30, they made an announcement that the show would begin in 5 minutes, and the theatre was half-empty at the time.''

I also wonder what Pence would've thought if he knew Jose Llana, who has played the King to rave reviews on the national tour, is openly gay and anti-Trump, and has happily had a partner, Erik, for over a decade. Pence's history includes signing the anti-LGBT ''religious liberty'' law in Indiana when he was governor; supporting ''conversion therapy'' for gays, and declaring marriage equality will lead to our ''societal collapse.''

If a theatre did that to me - for *any* reason - and hadn't communicated to me well in advance that I should arrive early, I would expect a full refund. That is simply unacceptable.

I don't think he would've given a crap, per the query at the end.

Kennedy Center will have to make this right.

Assuing this post isn't even half-exaggerated, then it is in fact the Kennedy Center's fault for not managing the situation better in advance -
and as someone else has posted below, it seems they'd be more than obligated to offer a choice of either a full refund, a free ticket for another performance, or (in the case of subscription ticket holders) a pro-rated reimbursement based on the total cost of the season, to any ticketholders who even claim they were inconvenienced.
If hundreds of people were still going through security 15 minutes into the show, I'd expect to hear an official statement of apology issued sometime soon.

I really don't like Mike Pence; but isn't this on the Kennedy Center for not holding the show or handling this better?

I would be furious if I showed up 20 minutes before a show and missed the beginning.

I often see in the news that President Clinton and Secretary Clinton attend Broadway shows in NYC; How do theaters manage the same security checks--Couldn't the Kennedy Center have called their friends in NYC?(Was there perhaps extra checks due to a death threat?; And when VP- elect Pence attended, Hamilton, We all read about the lecture he was given at the end of the show, But I never read that the theater mismanaged security or starting time.
