Is Dolly's entrance into the Harmonia Gardens simply an underlying wish for everyone to be acknowledged in such a grand, showy way?

I was watching the Shirleys/Booth/MacLaine/Anthony Perkins film of "The Matchmaker" again recently; a very enjoyable film, but among the differences from the musical, Dolly is hardly given a big welcome at all when she enters and is a guest at the Harmonia Gardens. The great song and staging and the musical creators' choosing this spot for song placement was, of course, felicitous. But are we so excited because that's how we'd like to be greeted and we're projecting our feelings onto the Dolly of the Day?
