Barbara Cook's As Of Today album

Sorry if this is a bit off-topic, but I've always assumed the harmony vocal on the song "It Was" belonged to Wally Harper. The album, at least my vinyl edition, doesn't actually credit anyone. Do any of you know for sure if it's him?

Yup, Wally Harper. CD version doesn't credit it either, but I saw them perform most of the selections from this album at a Boston engagement at what used to be the Copley Plaza, now Fairmont Copley Plaza. One selection she sang which I have never seen recorded was Billy Joel's New York State of Mind. My memory is that her rendition was par excellence, but with no recording Mel Torme's multiple versions take pride of place. There are other selections she sang in live performances that don't exist on legitimate recordings.

Yes! Her version of Paul Simon's "St. Judy's Comet" was a joy, too.

Thank you!

It's interesting to read all of the mentions of pop songs in Cook's repertoire. When I first heard her in 1980 at Reno Sweeneys, it was a stunning version of Dan Fogelberg's Longer Than that remains with me to this day and , at the time, opened my mind to contemporary songs worthy of being placed among The American Standard songbook.
