On the scene at Hollywood and Broadway's Salute to Pride at New York City Hall on June 23, 2005 The honorees were performers and others who have contributed to the gay community in various ways - through the roles they have played, their political activism, etc. The Council chambers were SRO. Honorees included: Dr. Luis Freddy Molano, Founder of Community Healthcare Network's Bronx Health Center Transgender Program; Scott Talbot and Paul Kolbusz, activists and owners of O.W. Bar; Joyce Hunter, founding member of the Hetrick-Martin Institute and Harvey Milk School (her award was presented by Council member Margarita Lopez; Miriam Young, Director of Public Policy and Government Relations for the LGBT Community Services Center; Dr. Mathilde Krim, Founding Chair of AmFAR; Christopher Sieber, who was honored last year as well; ; John C. Reilly, who spoke of the many people who had come up to him to tell how they were touched by Mr. Cellphane, the character he played in the film version of Chicago; All 5 Altar Boyz, who performed the opening number from their show to open the awards ceremony; Christian Campbell; Gary Beach, who received his award from Cady Huffman; Robert Goulet; The Fab Five from Queer Eye (Ted Allen spoke of the last time he was at City Hall, to register as a domestic partner with his partner, and how great it was to be at City Hall for such festive things); Kelly Osborne, who had flown in from England to accept the award; and Fran Drescher.
The Youth Pride Chorus from the LGBT Community Center performed "What Matters" by Randi Driscolla, a beautiful song about Matthew Shepard. |
