I love circus, and Sarasota is home to so much circus that I'm glad to live here. It was the winter home for Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus for many years, is home of the largest miniature circus display in the U.S., and many circus families of many generations make their home here. Circus Arts Conservatory in conjunction with the John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art is presenting The Summer Circus Spectacular 2016 10th Anniversary Edition in the Historic Asolo Theater. This intimate theater is a perfect place to get a close look at some fine circus acts from all over the world.

Emceeing the show is the returning Bailey Gelding Sloan, daughter of an established performing family and graduate of Pal Sailor Circus. She is beautiful and has perfect diction. She should give lessons to half of the actors who regularly work in town. The show is headlined by clown Adam Kuchler, an adorable little imp of a young man. He has three features: first an audience warm up where he tries to get rhythmic clapping going, second a routine with multiple hats that ends with him trying to pass through a shopping bag, and in the last and best he stacks blocks to mayhem and amusement.

Sergio and Martha Martinez are the first skill act on the bill. They feature the bolo, a hard ball on a rope that simulates tapping when they rapidly hit it against the stage floor. Next up is Romy Gomez who juggles an ever increasing number of balls. Black lighting enhances the viewing experience. Father and daughter Sergey and Sasha offer a balancing act that is amazing. She is all of 14, has been training for almost 10 years and they do some fantastic tricks. Last of the skill acts is Dolly Jacobs, eternally youthful, taking to the air. She and husband Pedro Reis are the founders of Circus Arts Conservatory. The show lasts for an hour, perfect for introducing younger children to the thrills that only circus can bring.
