Mr. Spectacular

Recently I was asked to write an article for Las Vegas Life magazine about Jerry Herman and his new musical, Miss Spectacular, destined to open at the Mirage in May of 2001. In addition to that they asked for a bio of me (aka V.J.) and a photo. So, here's that bio and the link to the article.

One morning in 1964, John Gillespie played hooky from high school and hopped on a bus from his hometown, Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, to New York City in order to catch a matinee of Jerry Herman's Broadway musical Hello, Dolly! Just the man, 35 years later, to chat up Herman about Miss Spectacular, the new musical Herman is creating for the Mirage. Since his youthful adventure in musical-theater truancy, Gillespie has spent 20 years hanging around Broadway. Now a Henderson resident, he publishes an Internet magazine, Talkin' Broadway, for which he writes three columns a week. Plus, he has two novels in progress.

He blames it all on Jerry Herman.
