| They must have had trouble with the song. "Lucy and Jessie" is at least the third song for this character development. There's a cut song from "Follies" on the same theme, "Uptown Downtown" with the lyric "Hyphenated-Harriet, the nouveau from New Rochelle. And, sometimes used in revivals instead of "Lucy and Jessie," there's "Ah, But Underneath." "Sometimes when the rappings fall, there's nothing underneath at all." This doesn't resolve your problem with "Lucy and Jessie" but may indicate that the creatives weren't pleased with the moment. Doug Wright has said, "You don't finish a musical. You just run out of time." |
