| There was nothing wrong with "Uptown/Downtown" -- it was cut because when Michael Bennett became choreographer, he wanted a fresh song that he could help shape from scratch -- hence, Lucy & Jessie. It's my understanding that "Ah, But Underneath" was written for the subsequent London production in order to give Phyllis a number that didn't require the same level of dancing. | |
