One could argue My Fair Lady was more heavily based on the screenplay for the film of Pygmalion than it was on the play. Also don't forget the next year brought us Donnybrook in 1961 which was based on a movie. And of course you're ignoring the revival of West Side Story which opened in 1960.
I for one don't give a damn about the source of a play or musical. I care if it's done well, and that's something we just can't know yet. To dismiss it out of hand as you have done is ridiculous. |
