| Interesting that Ambrose could be cast as Fanny Brice and Eliza Doolittle. I heard Ambrose do some singing on "SIx Feet Under" in some flashback, and she sounded very good. I suppose Barbara Cook could have pulled both of these roles off, as she actually did do Fanny Brice in stock, though Ambrose's production of "Funny Girl" was scuttled. I'm not familiar with the gent playing Higgins; I had heard they were trying to get Colin Firth. I don't know why this could be produced and not "Funny Girl" without a big name opposite Ambrose though. Diana Rigg is a plus, though maybe they'll do what they did when I saw "My Fair Lady" in London years ago where they actually added some dancing at the ball for the Mrs. Higgins of Anna Neagle, a big star there. (No, please don't -- it was a bit silly). |
