| I'm with you, NewtonUK, and also with Mockingbird Girl, below. It's one thing--and a wonderful thing--to adapt to the musical stage an existing film which was NOT a musical to begin with, in order to create an entirely new experience that is meant to be different from the experience of the movie. (This intention is customarily--though not quite always--signaled by a title change, as from Smiles of a Summer Night to A Little Night Music.) It's something quite else, and much less, just to put an existing musical movie on the stage as the same musical, with the same title--which of course is the selling point--in order (it is hoped) to reap the same profits one more time. |
