need to clarify
during the Wichita strip, as Louise realizes there's an audience out there to engage (and not just be heckled by), she starts to get over her stage fright and engage the crowd.
When she says "Mr Conductor, if you please-?" she's gained ground to finish the act of with some flair. And then the other strips(s) ending with Minsky's display her command.
but in this production, the Wichita strip (only) had her bedraggled from start to finish. If I didn't know the next scenes, I would have expected some debrief with Moma Rose afterwards before Gypsy's next performance to avoid the same disaster
I saw the show tonight. I understand what you're saying, but I bought how she played it. What made sense to me is the growth in confidence that happened from one venue to another. I can buy that Louise would be awkward all the way through the first one.
Terrific production in all ways. ;-) |
