| I'm on the complete opposite side of this. I very much appreciate the no late seating policies, it enhances my experience at the theater by minimizing distractions by people who for whatever reason could not prioritize being at an event at it's start time. I think you have some observational bias happening when you assume that "the vast majority of people don't have a problem with people coming and going throughout the performance", I have always assumed the opposite to be true and thought that it was a vast majority of people who would be annoyed by it, but I admittedly am very distracted by late comers, cell phones etc. From my perspective when I think "Screw this, I don't need these rude people" I'm referring to those who perpetuate the distractions, not those who avoid them. Distractions like the ones you mention are one of the reasons I stopped going to movie theaters for the most part, but I will go to Alamo Draft House in Brooklyn as they have a no late seating, no cell phone, no talking during the movie policy that they'll actually enforce. I do agree that it wouldn't hurt to make the policy very clear however. |
