I always plan to arrive 20-30 minutes ahead of time, but usually a couple of times a year there is such a huge delay that even the extra padded time doesn't help. Think of the recent N/R/Q/W evening rush-hour fiasco on a recent Thursday where trips took 3 hours home to Astoria or last night's complete suspension of A/C/E/D service due to Canal St signal problems with trains holding in stations as far north as 42nd St. Many times in the outer boroughs, there is no alternative but to walk (or take a bus) to a different train line several miles away. The lack of compassion shown when the MTA website shows catastrophic delays is simply unfathomable. (Last night, when a pre-show announcement was made about no late seating & no re-entry, I think the person making the announcement from the stage saw the complete disgust on my face.)

How early would you suggest people leave for a 7pm show in light of these delays which can exceed 3 hours (and which sometimes don't appear until you've already started your trip)? Would you suggest people leave work 3 hours early at 4pm? Would you suggest 3pm? I'm quite curious what your suggestion is.
