I'm curious if most people posting here live/work in Manhattan and if they've experienced any catastrophic subway delays in the past year. And how they would react to each of the following scenarios. "Leaving earlier" (over an hour early) simply wouldn't have helped. And a cab from 179th St/Jamaica, Brooklyn, Nassau County, etc, simply wouldn't be feasible. It seems many theaters only cater to a Manhattan-centric audience, which is why many of them are suffering.

Has anyone ever been at New Hyde Park trying to get to the theater, left over an hour early, and just heard the LIRR was suspended? That necessitates a lengthy NICE bus ride to the 179th St subway, followed by an F train ride all the way to the city. Could easily take an extra 90 to 120 minutes depending on how long you have to wait for the Nassau bus. I still simply can't understand the lack of comprehension and compassion that some delays will cost you HOURS and HOURS of time. Do people on this board think I'm making this up that leaving 1.5 hours early would still not be enough??

In just the past year alone, I've been stuck on a D train on the Manhattan bridge for 45+ minutes, stuck on an N in between Canal & Prince for 45 minutes, had a catastrophic Thursday evening ride to Astoria, endured a complete suspension of F service out of 179th St/Jamaica, and endured a suspension of LIRR service (necessitating a Nassau county bus to the Queens subway). And these are all during the WEEKDAYS in the late afternoon/early evening. Naturally, each of these delays lasted significantly longer than 45 minutes and even padding the trip by over an hour wouldn't have helped. Luckily most of these times I wasn't headed to the theater.
