I always plan to arrive 20-30 minutes ahead of time, but usually a couple of times a year there is such a huge delay that even the extra padded time doesn't help. Think of the recent N/R/Q/W evening rush-hour fiasco on a recent Thursday where trips took 3 hours home to Astoria or last night's complete suspension of A/C/E/D service due to Canal St signal problems with trains holding in stations as far north as 42nd St.

I saw a show last night. And took the D train to get there. The delay you're speaking about happened much later in the evening, and would not have affected people getting to the theatre. I experienced it around midnight on my way home (and took the 1 train home instead)- not sure when it started, but it was well after my show's 8pm start time.

Most theatres are in areas where there are multiple train lines. If one is delayed, get out and take another. Or take a cab. Or walk.

i know, sometimes you might be stuck on a train between stations and you can't do this. That sucks. But often, these delays you're talking about primarily affect those who are going home (their one train line is delayed, and a cab might be too expensive) as compared to those who are going to the theatre (there's another line they can switch to).

I mean, look at your examples- you're getting all in a fuss about different subway delays you experienced when you DIDN'T have theatre, and thinking "what if I had a show tonight?" Well, had you had a show, you would have found another way to get there, because there likely would have been other options.

Ultimately, this is an MTA issue, not a theatre issue. I think we all agree with you that the MTA needs to be better. Letting people know they can walk in late to a show isn't going to help that problem.
