| I saw Greta Gerwig's wonderful new comedy (her directorial debut) Lady Bird at the New York Film Festival tonight. During the film, a teenager played by Saorise Ronan joins the theater club in her Catholic high school and she is cast as a swing in a production of Merrily We Roll Along. The auditions and snippets of the students performing Sondheim are hilarious. The cast of the film includes several actors who we've seen on the New York stage recently: Laurie Metcalf, Beanie Feldman, Tracy Letts, Lucas Hedges, Timothy Chalamet, Lois Smith and Steven Henderson. I highly recommend you see this buoyant movie. |
