My husband and I just returned from London where we saw the following plays:
APOLOGIA, riveting performance by Stockard Channing. Should be produced in NY. 33pounds, Stalls H23,24
CAT ON A HOT TIN ROOF, Re-imagined Williams with full frontal nudity. Shocking and funny. 65pounds, StallsJ21,22
INK, Funny, fast moving study of Rupert Murdock and the tabloid Sun. 29pounds, Stalls E8
KINKY BOOTS, carbon copy of US production. 35pounds, Dress Circle F11,12
FOLLIES, fabulous, dark and moody. 41pounds, Olivier Circle G44,45
QUEEN ANNE, beautifully staged with great performances, but requires more knowledge of British history than I possess. 5pounds Dress Circle 15,16
AGAINST, a passionless play about passion with a one-note performance by Ben Wishaw, 39pounds, Circle 39pounds, B20,22
THE FERRYMAN, magnificent theatre, powerful and full of surprises. 29pounds, Stalls J4,5
DREAMGIRLS, Terrific revival with a perfect Effie in Amber Riley. 21pounds, Stalls T7,8
ALADDIN, Great fun and the perfect British pantomime, minus the drag. 24pounds, Dress Circle D8,9
WICKED, It is what it is. Saw it because we never made it in NY. 63pounds, Stalls H27,28
I include the prices and locations to make a point; going to the theatre in London is so much easier and cheaper than in New York( pound equals $1.30). Day tickets (essentially a rush ticket) are available for most productions. Just show up at the box office and one will usually find a seat. Producers seem to want to make money and also to make sure that EVERYONE can see the show. |
