Ragtime has Tateh and his daughter singing snippets of "Lebn Zol Kolumbus," which was originally from a 1915 Yiddish operetta called The Green Millionaire.
Though it's not a literal showtune, "You Fascinate Me So" by Cy Coleman and Carolyn Leigh features this lyric:
"I feel like Christopher Columbus when I'm near enough to contemplate
The sweet geography descending from your eyebrow to your toe.
The possibilities are more than I can possibly enumerate,
That's why you fascinate me so."
Also, "Set Those Sails" is part of a subplot in In Trousers where young Marvin is playing Columbus in the school play. (This also involves the song "My High School Sweetheart" and Marvin's monologue "How America Got It's Name," which was unfortunately only cut down to a few lines on the original recording.) |
