Both times in Chicago. Once because of a major accident on the Kennedy Expy while driving to the Court Theatre to see Gross Indecency in '98. We missed the start of the play by about a minute -- the usher seated my partner and I in 2 empty seats in the last row of the theater. After intermission we took are ticketed seats.
The other time was at the Chicago Theatre for the tour of Jelly's Last Jam in '95. My partner and I had been seated about 10 minutes before curtain. However, I needed to use the men's room. Unfortunately it was a very small facility and there was a huge line. They closed the door to the orchestra section just as I got back. I was seated after the opening number concluded.
I've never missed a curtain in New York or London. I find it easier to get to the theater in plenty of time when I'm on vacation. |
