| - In the prior week, ended October 1, Broadway grosses totaled $23,206,324 for 24 shows. In the comparable week last year, Broadway grosses totaled $25,903,638 for 29 shows. Broadway grosses were up 30% from the prior week. Attendance was up by 19% and, thanks to Mr. Springsteen, the average admission was $128. — As expected Bruce Springsteen sold out his engagement at the 939-seat Walter Kerr Theatre. His first 5 performances grossed $2,332,108. The average ticket price was a whopping $496.72. This figure dwarfed the usual #1 Hamilton’s average admission of $272.24 — The Band’s Visit had its first (and only) preview at the Ethel Barrymore Theatre on Saturday night and sold out with a gross of $134,679. In a regular 8-performance week, that would multiply into a $1,077,432 gross. A good start. — M. Butterfly had its first two previews last week at the Cort Theatre and grossed $199,627 which was 82% of its potential gross. — The not-for-profit Junk at Lincoln Center Theater’s Beaumont played its first 4 previews and grossed $238,130 at considerable discounts for members. The telling number here is that only 71% of the seats were occupied, both paid and comped.
