| The out-of-town tryout replacements are really interesting, too, and it would be great to hear about those as well. The reason why I originally mentioned rehearsals/previews specifically is because, nowadays, one could make the argument that the out-of-town actor was just a placeholder, anyway. I was thinking specifically about Finding Neverland, where Jeremy Jordan did the out-of-town tryout, but Matthew Morrison did the Broadway run; it was said that Morrison was unavailable for the out-of-town tryout and was intended to be the Broadway lead all along. There may have been a similar non-firing for Bonnie and Clyde, where Stark Sands did the first out-of-town run but then was involved in American Idiot by the time the next out-of-town run happened, and Jeremy Jordan did that run as well as the Broadway one, although I may be wrong about that. Of course, the model was completely different in prior years, and those stories would be wonderful to learn about! |
