| Michael Riedel in the N.Y. Post reports that members of the Tony administration committee caught Bruce Springsteen's show last Friday and loved it. So now they could award him a special Tony. And he wouldn't be the 1st pop concert artist to get one: Diana Ross, Barry Manilow, Bette Midler, etc. But it seems a stretch for Michael to suggest that Springsteen might do a special show for Tony voters, just so he could be eligible for Best Book or Best Direction. (Has anyone ever been Tony-nominated for writing or directing his own rock concert?) And the Tonys could go the Special Tony route for Michael Moore. Does anyone know if ''The Terms of My Surrender'' invited Tony voters? ''Harry Potter and the Cursed Child'' is probably the heavy favorite for Best Play, but maybe Moore has a long shot at a nomination. (John Leguizamo got Tony nominations for Best Play and Actor for his 1988 one-man show, ''Freak.'') |
