It remind me of a sad incident with a beloved and talented college instructor (not at my institution or even in my region) who, a few years ago, became suddenly ill and died within two weeks. It turned out he had AIDS and did not even know he was HIV+ until pneumonia took his life. I didn't know him well, so I assumed he had not been tested (or not for awhile), but I had not thought of the "rapid progressors."
It's also a reminder that the AIDS epidemic is far from over and this is no time to become complacent.
