| I was at the second preview. The audience was extremely quiet and well behaved. I think that the whole evening felt very theatrical. SPOILER ALERT: The lighting was absolutely beautiful - a bit atmospheric. The setting (to me) looked like a backstage "waiting to go on" area. The whole staging made it seem so much more like theatre rather than concert, and I think that helped keep everyone "grounded" as to what they were seeing.. They made the "no recording or photographic equipment....tonight's performance of Springsteen on Broadway will begin..." announcement, and then he just walked on stage and started. It was so startling that it took everyone a moment to get to their feet for the "welcome ovation." The performance is about 15 songs and definitely has a story arc. The themes of growing up, getting older and looking back on your life are explored. It is "very scripted" - there is a teleprompter (that I could see) hanging over mid orchestra. Performance was about 2hrs 7 min. If you love him, it will be an evening of total joy. It felt like being in his inner circle for two hours. The songs are rearranged (and slowed down) to really accent the lyrics. Patti (his wife) does two songs with him mid-show. I had a 400.00 seat in the 8th row Orch on the very side aisle, and could see absolutely fine. It was really a beautiful evening. Sound, by the way, was fantastic. | |
