When I saw "Disgraced" I was so excited--here seemed to be an original voice doing a unique riff on "Othello" themes. I was thrilled. Then I saw his follow-up at the Tow,
as well as his piece at NYTW, "The Invisible Hand". The first was underwhelming and derivative of territory covered in "Disgraced" and the second, well, I don't know what it was about, Something about finance, then a man disappeared into a hole in the wall, fade to intermission blackout. I walked out.
I am sorry his new piece at LTC is not up to par, either. Ayad Akhtar needs to seriously take stock and reavaluate his mission as a writer. He seems to be writing with nothing new to say. |
