Surprising Dear Evan Hansen ticket experience....
Posted by: Michaels 05:10 am EDT 10/12/17

I walked past Dear Evan Hansen Wednesday at 10 AM and was puzzled to see a line of about 40 people, definitely not traditional theatergoers, on line. It turns out that Hansen periodically releases obstructed view tix for a period of performances and the people were buying these tix for a two week period in November. It was clear that the people on line were all working for resellers who paid them for purchasing tickets...a guy in front of the theater was paying them as they came out of the box office. It seemed to me that somehow the information about this release of tickets wasn't known to general theatergoers but somehow was known by the ticket resellers. I can't fault the theater for the fact that these tix are purchased almost totally by resellers but I have to wonder if there could be a way of avoid, or diminish the monopolizing of the sale of these tickets to resellers. I believe tix were limited to two per person but there were enough people there to buy all available seats; I think they probably bused the buyers to the theater.
